Date: August 22-23-24

Site: Lubbock, Texas area

Update - 4-30-08

The Giant Side of Texas Rally has joined both the American Motorcycle Association and the Texas Motorcycle Roadriders Association. While the AMA will offer the rally national sanctioning, insurance and recognition the TMRA offers complete exposure to the many clubs in Texas(over 100 member clubs now active). In light of the tremendous amount of clubs that exist now we are creating a special category of recognition to the clubs that come to the Giant Side Rally. It will include recognition of banners, flags, who drove the most miles, who brings the most members, largest club, smallest club, club patches and pins, etc. We have 15 clubs in Lubbock alone and would like to have all of them present. NOTICE: Anyone out there reading this that would like to help with the club aspect of the rally please contact Mike Greer.

Thunder in the Tunnel is BACK!!! After re-visiting with the powers to be I have been able to get this approved and new paper work will be presented within a few days. It will be on the Ave A tunnel(heading North), then turning left(West) to the Broadway tunnel. This will be on Sunday morning from 10:00-12:00 a.m. and will be limited to the first 200 that sign up. With this being a first year event I wanted to be conservative on the numbers and the time requested to conduct it. Take some test runs through these tunnels, it is cool!!

Another outstanding event for the rally will be the 30 chuck wagon cook off contest. We have met with the top chuck wagon "guru's" in the area and we feel that will be a great draw for the community and for the riders as they come to Lubbock. We have had two planning meetings with these folks and they are eager to cook some delicious food.

We have been advised by Civic Lubbock that we will know the results of our request for a music grant for 2008 by May 4th. At this time many bands have been listened to and many have contacted us about playing for the rally, but at this time no one has been signed. After we know the results of this request we will proceed on the booking and planning of our concert music to be presented at the Lone Star Amphitheater on 19th St. It is reserved for August 23, so be planning on some great music!!

The day ride maps and locations will be posted on the web site within 10 days, and will include Palo Duro Canyon, Canyon State Park, White River, JD's, Rolling Thunder, Black Gold Casino, Border Bar, Buffalo Springs, etc. WE WILL NEED RIDE LEADERS FOR EACH OF THESE RIDES, ANYONE INTERESTED PLEASE CONTACT MIKE GREER!! THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

There will be a poker run offered and headed up by Danny Barnhill of Wild West Harley Davidson. Other games will also be offered and the official "burn out" location will be at Buffalo Springs Lake.

Any comments or suggestions for the rally should be directed to mikeg82617@aol.com. Thanks for your support!!!
